4 of the Most Important Life Skills to Teach Your Kids (and you too)

Life is full of challenges, trials and tribulations. Your kids will go through life’s roller coaster during all of their growing years. You, as their strongest role model can keep them on their path of progress and success by not only teaching them these 4 important pieces of advice, but by modeling them too. 1. INTEGRITY Simply put, do what you say you are going to do. Don’t tell your kids to do something that you are not willing to do yourself. Don’t ask your kids to lie for you or allow anyone else to ask your kids to lie or keep secrets. 2. DON’T ASSUME You know the old adage… when you assume… Teach your children to ask questions and when you are talking to your child, you ask questions too. Teach them to communicate clearly and tell people exactly what they want. Remind them that people cannot read their minds. 3. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY What others do, the way others react, usually has everything to do with them and the way they are feeling, rather than anything to do with you. So you stick to your beliefs and be immune to other people’s opinions. 4. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST and MAKE YOURSELF PROUD If you are always putting forth your best effort, then you will always be proud of the outcome. Don’t be so hard on yourself. If something did not turn out the way you planned, reexamine, reevaluate and revise. Very often the effort is directly related to how you are feeling and what is going on at the time, so when it’s time to get work done, focus on the job at hand, and do it to the best of your ability. If you are not feeling up to par, then it may be a good time to get a little rest before starting your project. As a parent, you should always model these 4 concepts and talk about what you are doing and how it is working out for you. In addition, be available for your child, if they are working at home, so that they know that you care about their work and its completion, as well.
